Preventing tooth decay is all about you. What you do at home is what will determine whether your child is at greatest risk for tooth decay. Start early! It is important that you clean your infants gums with a soft cloth or finger cot twice a day. We will show you how. Starting at age 2, use a fluoride containing toothpaste, and brush twice a day. Brushing only once a day will significantly increase your child for being at risk for tooth decay.
Between ages 2-6, only a pea-size amount of fluoride toothpaste should be used. It is important that you do the actual tooth brushing, since young children do not have the manual dexterity to properly brush their teeth. Let them brush first, but then you need to complete the brushing for them.
